This question is more for the engineering/designer types:

Have you ever tried to remove the PPF? Why was it designed to be so heavy?! I mean, it is really heavy. Why can't this be designed to be lighter?

1. Has a decision been made on the production naming of the 16X engine yet? Will it be a 16B or 16C engine as the "X" factor is understood to mean eXperimental.

2. Will Mazda offer this 16X engine in more than just a single vehicle & allow the buyer choice. The HB Cosmo (82-89) was offered as a rotary, piston, deisel choice for the buyer in 2-door + 4-door hardtop & 4-door sedan. So this is nothing Mazda haven't done before.

Mazda's pending low cost sporty coupe should offer the 16X + 2lt at the very least. As a piston only it will (yawn) fade into the background with every other manufacturers attempt to do the same. With a 16X (or 13B-MSP) rotary option its place in automotive history is assured & non RX-8 buyers will jump at it.

3. Mazda Australia have a very "anal" approach to any rotary powered product. With the new series-II RX-8 will they try to rip off the Aussie public again by charging a (retail) 100% mark up on the same car in Japan or 90% over the U.S version. Can some one from head office inform them that Aussie buyers do surf the internet & cringe at what reasonable prices the Japanese & U.S buyers get this car for.

For reference, they only do a 10% - 15% mark up on the M2 + M3 + M6.

03 + 04 model RX-8's are losing their IGN coils between 30,000km & 80,000km depending on how hard the car is driven. Its noted that many are changed under warranty & out of warranty owners can purchase replacement coils very cheaply for a back yard repair

(note: Coils on my personal RX-8 failed at 53,000km)

Will Mazda address this issue on the updated RX-8 (series-II) by adding ducted cooling to the coils (like the PCM container)or re-locating them away from the enclosed & hot engine.

Over temp issue contributed by undersized coils inability to dissapate heat onto the already (engine temp) heated base plate

With the fact that thousands of RX-2's, RX-3's & RX-7's are still out there on the streets & race tracks each week. How long will mazda support the spare parts program to help owners / racers keep their rotary rockets going.

E.G.... 12A rotors & rotor housings, side plates & seal kits etc etc.

Have there been any comparisons between r/e ratios in hardware? The new Mazda rotaries have lower r/e ratios than before. What are these new ratios? Will there be any SAE papers or other papers showing the improvements from these changes?

Dear Sirs,
My question is: Will future EPA MPG and new proposed Green House restrictions work to limit future rotary car plans or is this where Mazdas little "sleeper" will pull ahead of the competition ? Please elaborate on the beautiful new concept vehicles.

I ask as a Buyer/owner of 2 new RX-8s (2004 and 2007)and a 1974 REPU owner purchased in 1980. I am completely satisfied with my 2007 RX-8
