I bought a 2006 rx-8 end of the year, 3,000 miles on it, and since the beginning, I have noticed that there is a lose of power when I reach the 6,200 rpm up to until 7,000 or more! A couple of timex it has been very bad, but I thought I did something wrong (?!?).
I thought the DSC kicked in in some condition, I paied attention to have the A/C off, because I am used with previous car to feel when the A/C kicks in! But no way, it clearly has a slow down in that range. I went to NYC and going up on the bridge, when it reached 6,200 rpm I could not increase my speed!!! I am a kind of worried!spoiled by other japanese car to not have any issues!!!:-)
what could be the problem? does the mazda dealer should take care of it in warranty if it's a throttle sensor or whatever other sensor as suggested here by someone! thanks

im experiencing the same problem...about 6k to 7 something u feel a definite drop in power and its driving me nuts...ive allready replaced my plugs and wires, and had the carbon flushed from the engine. did u ever figure out the problem? hopefully u did and maybe i have the same problem

I can't diagnose your problem, (even though it sounds like
a clogging catalytic converter) but that is covered under warranty:
5 years or 60k miles. You should not be losing power,
especially in that range. Do't try to fix this problem yourself,
take it to a dealer; it's covered.

your problem probably has to do with the throttle position sensor, or one of the emission control valves.

Any updates on this condition? It seems very strange... I also had a bad gas experience once, same symptoms.

But with the RX-8, it might be something else.

Simply change gas stations. In 1981 I filled my tank at a local
station. I don't know if the station just took delivery and mucked
up the gas in their tanks but cars were stranded everywhere,
I only got 50 yards from the station before my engine quit.
After cleaning the plugs on several tries I finallly got it running.

not a dirty gas problem. Had it happen again. Different gas station

Hey Dan, yeah if he takes it in for the test it should
cover the basics. (A lot depends on his dealer)
Besides the new flash, I understand
plugs being changed are almost routine. If at his
milage they're the original plugs they should go anyway.
But why no codes?

I just had the car in for the "engine vacum test" 2 weeks ago. Vacum tested fine, replaced plugs and had flash update. Car still had the problem

This is my last shot in the dark. We looked
at the simple things so it's time to move on.
My son's 1999 Saturn SC-2 had intermittent
timer sensor problems. (There's no
distributors anymore) I wonder if one set
of plugs isn't firing in the 900 to 3500 RPM
range. ((leading or trailing) I only say this
because the car starts and is fine above 3500 rpm.
You might have to wait till the problem is permanent.
If it is something in the ignition it should be
covered under Fed Emissions Warranty.
P.S. Just was out staring at the individual coils
on my RX-8, what if a female connector expanded
just enough in the main connector (plus carbon)
that caused this intermittent problem. It's just
another thought.
Sorry I didn't help much, but maybe what I said
might give other people some ideas.
