SpeedSource Takes Two Top-Fives at Lime Rock with Added Support from Road n Track
Submitted by Dan Mazzella on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 - 6:02pm

SpeedSource Race Engineering ended their May road trip at Lime Rock Park this Memorial Day weekend. The Sunrise, Florida team has been on the road since early May leading the Mazda charge at each Grand-Am Cup event. After back-to back weekends of Grand-Am Cup competition in California and Arizona, the team traveled across the country to Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut. Despite this nonstop schedule, SpeedSource managed to earn two top-five finishes in the ST class race at Lime Rock Park.

SpeedSource owner and No. 70 car driver, Sylvain Tremblay, commended the efforts of fellow teammates Scott Schlesinger and Ken Dobson. They took their No. 68 Mazda RX-8 up to third place but were passed late into the race. Their fourth place finish is their highest finishing position for the year.

"Scott had never been to the track and had limited track time due to rain. He adjusted during the race and came out of weekend with a good result. Ken drove through the field and took the car up to third," Tremblay stated.

Schlesinger and Dobson also improved their position by fifteen spots, earning them the Bernheim Award, given to the team and drivers that show the greatest improvement from starting position to finishing position in each Grand-Am Cup race.

In the SpeedSource No. 70 car, Tremblay was joined by co-driver and team technical director, David Haskell. Tremblay was able to bring the car up to third place during his stint but finished in fifth place for the race. Recent rule adjustments gave the cars a competitive edge but as Tremblay stated, it simply was not enough.

"We got some help with the recent rule changes. We were hoping they would affect our competition a little more. We are only back to where we were at the end of last year," Tremblay stated. However, Tremblay was happy with the overall performance of the team.

"Making setup changes in rainy conditions is difficult, but we are pleased that both cars earned top-five finishes," Tremblay added.

SpeedSource was particularly pleased to share the two top-five finishes with Road & Track, their most recent partner. Road & Track is working with several of the Mazda-backed efforts across the country and will continue to partner with SpeedSource for the remainder of the 2006 season. Tremblay is hopeful for another good result for Road & Track at the team's next race at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.

"We are looking forward to the season with Road & Track. We are excited to have them on board with us for Mid Ohio. We have had a lot of success there in the past," added Tremblay.

SpeedSource will head to Mid Ohio June 23rd - 25th for the Grand-Am Cup race during the EMCO Gears Classic weekend. The Grand-Am Cup race begins Saturday, June 25th at 1:00 PM EST.

SpeedSource Race Engineering's 2006 Mazda RX-8 Campaign is supported by Mazdaspeed Motorsports, Mazda North American Operations, Road & Track, Racing Hart, Sparco, Motec, Hawk Performance Brakes, Dynamic Suspensions, Mothers Wax and Polish, Goodridge, and Mechanix Wear.
