Thursday, October 16, 2003. Braselton, GA. Championship points leader Luis Schiavo edged ever so farther ahead in the Star Mazda Series North American Championship points battle ahead of Friday's final round, grabbing his fifth pole position of the season, and with it one additional championship point, as he seeks to be the second Racers Edge Motorsports driver in as many seasons to capture the championship. Setting a fast lap of 1:25.236 around the winding Road Atlanta circuit, Schiavo has thrown down the championship gauntlet.
Joining Schiavo on the front row of the 22 lap event will be BK Motorsports driver Jamie Bach, wrapping up his rookie season with a qualifying time of 1:25.536, while Michael Potekhen will start third in his Eurosports Racing Mazda with a time of 1:25.783.
While Schiavo holds the points lead, Michael McDowell and Moses Smith are also in the running for the championship. McDowell, who now sits two points behind Schiavo, hopes to keep the pressure on Schiavo throughout the event, while Smith will need a bit of racing luck as he sits 26 points out of the lead.
Friday's race is scheduled to start at 1:20PM Eastern time and can be followed online with IMSA live timing and scoring At IMSA's Website |
