10 years ago, rumors about a concept Mazda Rotary appeared in magazines and the still young internet; they were reaching a fever pitch. Most magazines had Mazda unveiling a next generation RX-7, a 2 seat sports car. A few sources claimed Mazda would unveil a 4 door sports sedan, like the Lexus IS series. At the show, Mazda did introduce a new concept, but the RX-Evolv was wilder than anyone had speculated, a 4 door sports car. Over the course of the next 4 years, the RX-Evolv evolved into the RX-8, and revived the rotary community in the US and around the world...
This site was founded to both disseminate the rumors and bring clarity to them. Along the way, we added feature stories, and motorsports coverage. We hope to bring you expanded coverage well into the future.
Now, onto the rumors for the 2009 Tokyo Autoshow The global recession has taken its toll on the auto manufacturers. Many programs have been scaled back or canceled all together. Thankfully, our sources tell us the Rotary Engine program at Mazda is not one of the programs that has been axed. However, the same sources tell us with the current economic environment, it is not the right time to introduce a new sports car concept. We may see a sporty, yet environmentally friendly concept at the show this year. Check back here often for breaking news. We expect to start seeing photos, design sketches, and other leaks late September into early October. |
